Online grocery spend more than doubled in June

Online grocery spend shot up more than 100 per cent in June as demand for home deliveries stayed strong despite retailers reopening their doors.

According to Barclaycard’s latest data, online grocery spending jumped 105.9 per cent year-on-year in June, aided by a 25.7 per cent rise in supermarket shopping overall marking the sharpest increase since the start of the year.

This came as overall consumer spending fell 14.5 per cent across the month, marking the smallest decline since lockdown began and providing signs that the retail sector could be starting to recover.
