Online shopping will account for 51% of global sales post pandemic

Online shopping is due to account for more than half of all retail sales globally post pandemic as online marketplaces look set to take the lion’s share of revenues.

According to Wunderman Thompson Commerce’s ‘Future Shopper Report 2021’, which surveyed 28,000 consumers across 17 countries, 51 per cent of global retail sales will be made online after the pandemic.

The pandemic encouraged a permanent shift to online shopping and introduced many new shoppers to the medium, with 60 per cent of respondents stating that they were more comfortable using digital technology, and 72 per cent stating online shopping came to their rescue in 2020.
