Retail sales see second straight monthly slide

U.S. retail sales in June dropped 0.2% (a  2.8% increase from the same period last year) and 0.1% in core categories not including autos, fuel, building materials and food services, the Commerce Department said Friday. The result was the second straight monthly drop, defying analyst expectations from MarketWatch of a 0.1% increase.

May’s retail sales number was revised to a 0.1% decrease from the previously reported 0.3% slide. E-commerce sales in June rose 9.2% year over year, and 0.4% from May, according to the report. image:
