Card payment expenditure climbed over $42 trillion in 2021, marking a 23% rise, according to RBR.
The rise came off the back of the world’s recovery from the effects of the pandemic, which had initially led to a fall in in card payments in 2020.
A report from RBR showed growth in total purchase volume across debit, credit, and prepaid cards, and in all regions.
Excluding China – which accounted for 50% of total card spending across the globe – growth remained high at 22%.
