Oracle has introduced the latest version of its Xstore Point of Service (POS), a cloud-based application that aims to enhance the efficiency and in-store engagement of retail operations by simplifying workflows. The new version boasts a redesigned architecture and an intuitive user interface, making it accessible for retailers of all sizes. Key features include dashboards that display customers’ past purchase histories and worklists designed to guide next-step actions, such as preparing orders for ‘Buy Online, Pick Up In Store’ (BOPIS).
Advanced Cloud Architecture
The Xstore’s new architecture is containerized and supported by Oracle’s high-performance Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Autonomous Database, ensuring robust security measures and streamlined data processing. This architecture not only simplifies the deployment process but also facilitates regular updates and the addition of new functionalities. Retailers can choose from various deployment models, including public cloud, multicloud, on-premises, or OCI Roving Edge Infrastructure. Additionally, Xstore is compatible with iOS or Android-based tablets, handheld devices, and desktop computers.
Enhanced Retail Operations
Paul Woodward, Vice President of Retail Products at Oracle, emphasized that the revamped Xstore offers enhanced functionality and effectiveness, supporting evolving consumer journeys, inventory management systems, and regional compliance requirements, while simultaneously improving experiences for both customers and staff. The new Xstore, as part of Oracle’s Retail Suite, is designed to unify and streamline processes across various retail functions—from planning to fulfillment—leading to more insightful and effective operations.
Intuitive Dashboards and Workflows
The application’s intuitive dashboards and workflows empower retail staff by providing immediate access to customer transaction histories, offers, rewards, and inventory data. This facilitates personalized customer interactions and efficient inventory management. When not assisting customers, associates can use individualized dashboards to stay updated on new orders and tasks like price adjustments. Store managers benefit from a holistic view of order fulfillment, ensuring the timely delivery of products.
Containerized Architecture and Deployment Options
The system’s architecture, which leverages OCI and OCI Container Instances, allows for faster implementation and connectivity of containerized apps within the Xstore platform, offering improved security and performance. The option to use OCI Roving Edge Infrastructure enables rapid deployment even in locations with constrained Wi-Fi, facilitating faster data processing and analysis closer to the data source. Xstore is currently operational in 95 countries and features multi-lingual support, currency options, and localization functionalities to meet diverse regional requirements.
Future Showcase and Plans
The system’s architecture now allows for smoother integration with existing retail systems, ensuring minimal disruption during implementation. Furthermore, the intuitive dashboard not only showcases customer purchase trends but also integrates insights that help staff deliver more personalized customer service. By focusing on both efficiency and customer experience, this latest version of Xstore POS aims to set a new standard in retail technology, empowering businesses to adapt to the evolving demands of modern consumers.
