Kohl’s management just announced that they will dismiss 250 associate workers as they restructure the company. Management will get rid of a layer of regional store leadership roles, restructure teams in the merchandise organization, and make other changes at the corporate level.
Kohl’s announcement is really no surprise. It comes on the heels of J.C.Penney and Macy’s announcements that they had a weak apparel Christmas selling season. Macy’s will eliminate 2,000 positions and close 125 stores. Kohl’s changes are intended to streamline communications, drive efficiencies, and reduce overlapping management positions according to Jen Johnson, SVP of Communications, as quoted in a CNBC release.
