The UK’s biggest retailers Marks & Spencer (M&S), Sainsbury’s and Currys criticised the government’s business rates reforms for heavy taxes imposed on physical stores.
According to This is Money, shops and other business properties are charged based on their rental value, which, according to those unhappy with the reforms, puts online retailers in a more financially beneficial position.
Critics suggested that changes that have already been implemented are insignificant, with the tax burden “’throttling local economies.”
