Analysis: Why Boots is embracing a marketplace model

“Marketplace” seems to be the buzzword in ecommerce at the moment, and why not? The widespread success of the model is there for everybody to see, with marketplaces currently accounting for around 40% of the UK’s total online spend.

Pureplay ecommerce companies such as Amazon, eBay and LookFantastic have all championed the model to great success, leading to high street names such as Superdrug, Debenhams and B&Q adopting the model in a bid to drive sales and stay relevant in a changing consumer landscape.
