Amazon has informed its European vendors that it will now focus on sourcing its products on directly from brands instead of wholesalers, in an email seen by Retail Week.
The US retail giant said it had reviewed the options before selecting the approach which it hopes will help it control its cost base and keep its prices at a low for shoppers.
It pointed out that wholesalers will still be able to sell their products through its marketplace and said it will continue to work with wholesalers if they are the brand owner or they have sole distribution rights.
