Amazon has outsold Walmart for the first time

Amazon saw sales beat its rival in the US for the first time between June 2020 and June 2021, according to research firm FactSet.

Consumers spent $610 billion at Amazon in the 12 month period, whereas shoppers spent $566 billion at leading US retailer Walmart.

With the pandemic accelerating the move to ecommerce Amazon has outsold the US’ largest retailer, which boasts 5,339 physical stores, for the first time.

However, the reason Amazon beat Walmart was more down to cultural mindset according to Brittain Ladd, a supply chain consultant and former Amazon exec.
